I love to wear my baby. Or I guess I should say… I would rather wear him vs. carry him.

Currently he is 24 lbs and wants to be held or carried most times.

At almost 9 months, my baby still fits comfortably in the Moby Wrap Classic

I’ve been fortunate to receive 2 types of baby carriers. One is structured and one is a wrap. I use them both — it just depends on which one I feel like using.

I have an Ergo Baby 360 Baby Carrier — which I use quite a bit for the sake of convenience when I’m on the go.

But today I really want to share my review of the Moby Wrap Classic — what I love about it (…and a few things I don’t).

First Impressions Of The Moby Classic Wrap

I’m not going to lie, the Moby baby wrap can be a little daunting at first — especially when you take the long 18-foot piece of fabric out of the bag for the first time!

I am holding the 18-foot long Moby Wrap Classic

But once you practice and learn the few carries/holds, you become quite fast at wrapping your baby.

Moby recommends 4 babywearing positions for the Moby Wrap Classic:

I think those 4 positions are perfect for newborns and babies!

Here’s my video demonstrating the Hug Hold:

PROS: Good Things About The Classic Moby Wrap

Here are some of the things I like most about the Moby Wrap Classic:

  • You get hands free babywearing — which allows for more mobility with your baby securely wrapped.
  • The wrap allows your back and torso to support your baby’s weight — so your shoulders don’t suffer.
  • It securely holds a baby up to 35 lbs.
  • The Moby baby wrap is a long piece of fabric — so it fits nicely in the bottom of your diaper bag without too much bulk for an out-of-town baby carrier option.
  • It’s made of a soft, stretchy 100% cotton fabric — so it’s machine washable and dryable.
  • It’s perfect for breastfeeding while babywearing and enjoying the closeness during your baby’s first few months. (Here’s how to breastfeed in a Moby Wrap.)
  • It’s a great way to keep baby close during those times when your baby is feeling clingy or needy.
  • It’s easy to put your baby in and take your baby out yourself.
  • I enjoy wearing the Moby baby wrap in the yard and around the house if baby is going to be in and out of the wrap in various places.

CONS: Not So Good Things About The Classic Moby Wrap

Here are some of the things I don’t like about the Moby Wrap Classic:

  • Depending where you live, it’s very seasonal. Since it’s fabric and you’re carrying a tiny human so close to your body, it can become really hot to wear your baby. I won’t use it in our East Tennessee summers, because I overheat. I’m excited to start using it again with the cooler temperatures fast approaching — but I will still need to dress lightly if I plan to baby wear for an extended period.
  • There’s a bit of a learning curve before you get the hang of using a Moby baby wrap. But with practice and a willingness to learn, the wrap — and the carry configurations — become faster to achieve. (Keep in mind, there is also the infant/toddler cooperation factor to consider!)
  • It’s inconvenient when you’re on the go — because the excess fabric will inevitably drag on the ground as you attempt a wrap/carry.
  • Since it’s made of a stretchy fabric, back carries (like you can do with a woven wrap) are not recommended with the Moby Wrap Classic.
  • It’s limited to newborns and babies. For example, Moby only endorses 4 babywearing positions on their website for the Classic Moby Wrap — which are all front and hip carry, but no forward-facing or back carries.
  • The Moby Wrap comes beautifully folded in its own little sack, but I haven’t had much luck getting it back into the carrier bag neatly.

The Bottom Line…

The Moby Wrap Classic was a baby shower gift, and I really enjoy the times I use it — especially during those first few months and cluster feeding days when I was feeling trapped in the house with the new baby.

As my baby continues to grow, I’m sure we will start to feel limited with only the rear-facing and front/hip carry options endorsed by Moby (because of the stretchy fabric). So, it’s only a matter of months before we will switch to a woven baby wrap and explore all the different back carries — which look like a fun thing to learn together!

But at this time, he is still a growing baby who has super clingy and needy days. On those days, the Moby Classic Wrap is perfect babywearing wrap to have your baby close and snuggly.

NOTE: In addition to the Moby Classic Wrap, they also make a Moby Carrier Wrap and a Moby Sling Wrap.
