How To Help Baby Sleep Through The Night

If your baby is just a few months old, you’re probably wondering if h2 is ever going to sleep through the night.

Most new parents have this problem, and despite what some may claim, their little angels don’t always sleep through the night.

Here are some things you can do to help baby sleep through the night:

  • Be realistic. Just because someone tells you their baby sleeps through the entire night does not mean he does.
  • Understand the link between meals and sleep. How long babies can go between meals is linked to if they will be able to sleep through the entire night.

WARNING: You should never give your baby cereal in his bottle or solids to help him sleep through the night. Not only do these 2 things not work, but they can actually be harmful to your baby.

  • Make sure baby gets enough to eat during the day. Two to 2-1/2 ounces per pound of body weight every 24 hours is the best measurement for knowing how much to feed your baby.
  • If baby drifts off before he’s done eating, jiggle him a bit to wake her up. This way, you can ensure he gets enough to eat and won’t wake up hungry in a few hours.
  • At your bedtime, wake baby up. Give your baby a snack. This will help baby sleep through the night.
  • If your baby is waking up every 2 hours, don’t respond right away. He may not be hungry or even wet, Perhaps he’s just gotten used to your instant response. If you wait a few minutes, you may find that he goes right back to sleep.

TIP: If you do end up getting up to attend to him, don’t make a party of it. Don’t play with him, sing to him, or turn on a lot of lights. Just feed him, change him if necessary, and put him back to bed.

  • Move baby to his own room. The proximity to mommy can be the very thing that is causing your baby to wake up several times during the night. If you put your baby in his own room, he’ll get the message quickly enough.
